CORVALLIS - The Corvallis-OSU Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Robert Brudvig, will present a special program on Sunday, February 9. The concert will begin at 4 p.m. at the Good Samaritan Episcopal Church, 333 N.W. 35th Street in Corvallis.
The program will open with Vivaldi's Concerto in C Major for two oboes, strings and harpsichord. The oboe soloists for this performance are two OSU students: Heather Bolstadt and Adam Parnell. The second work on the program will be Ottorino Respighi's Ancient Airs and Dances, Suite No. 3 for string orchestra. Composed in 1932, Suite No. 3 is a multi-movement work based on Italian and French music for the lute dating from the 17th and early 18th centuries.
The second half will open with Edvard Grieg's "Peer Gynt" Suite No. 1. In 1874 playwright Henrik Ibsen asked Grieg to write incidental music for a stage production of his famous poem. Suite No. 1 is a collection of four movements from this popular incidental music.
The final work on the program will be Franz Joseph Haydn's Symphony 104. First performed in 1795 for the London audiences, this is the last work of this genre written by the so-called "father" of the symphony.
Tickets are not required, but a $10 donation at the door is suggested.
