CORVALLIS - Shelby Filley, animal scientist with the Oregon State University Extension Service, is a recipient of the National Association of County Agricultural Agents Achievement Award.

She was honored at the association's recent 90th annual conference in Buffalo, N.Y.

OSU Extension Service peers nominated Filley for the award, presented to the top one percent of early-career county Extension agents from each state.

Filley earned her doctorate in animal nutrition and reproduction in 1998 in the Department of Animal Sciences at OSU. She worked for six years as an OSU Extension livestock and forages educator in Douglas County.

In 2004, her responsibilities expanded, making her a regional livestock and forage specialist in six Oregon counties - Benton, Douglas, Jackson, Josephine, Lane and Linn. Her focus has been on cattle and sheep nutrition and reproduction. Additionally, she works to improve pasture production practices throughout western Oregon.

"Her enthusiasm and dedication are appreciated by her peers and clientele alike," said Kelvin Koong, interim dean and director of the OSU Extension Service.
