WILSONVILLE - Need a chance to train your show horse? The Canyon Creek Riders, one of the two largest 4-H clubs in Clackamas County, will hold their annual June Jubilee open horse show on June 12 at the Northwest Equestrian Center in Boring.

The show provides equestrians with horsemanship experience needed before upcoming fairs, according to Barb Jenson, 4-H horse club adviser in the Clackamas County office of the Oregon State University Extension Service.

"It's great for first-timers," said Jenson. "It's a schooling show to teach your horse how to do horse shows."

The event, open to all, is a fund-raiser for the 30-year old club and will include more than 40 individual class events.

No matter which style of riding you prefer, English or Western, and from the walk trot to jumping, there will be a class for people who want to learn to show horses, said Jenson.

English-style events will be held in the morning and Western events in the afternoon. Ribbons will be awarded to first through sixth place.

Most classes, with the exception of native costume and dressage, count towards the High Point awards, given to the five cumulative total point winners of the day.

The 25 Canyon Creek riding members typically work alongside their mothers to announce classes, assist the judge and sell tickets.

Horse judge Joann Oswald will preside over the day's events.

Class fees are $6 per class, or $66 for unlimited entries during pre-registration, which ends June 6. After that, classes will be $7 each.

All-day stalls will be available for $20.

The event will be at the Northwest Equestrian Center at 29450 S.E. Lariat Lane in Boring, running from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. Registration begins at 7 a.m.
