CORVALLIS, Ore. –The Department of Design and Human Environment at Oregon State University is hosting a day-long career symposium for students, which is open to the general public. The theme for the symposium is “Reach for the Sky.”

The event is from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 1, at the CH2M-Hill Alumni Center. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.

Representatives from a number of companies and agencies will discuss trends in their industries particularly relating to professional career positions. Industry speakers represent Nike, Macy’s, Fred Meyer, Sofada, Gerding Edlen, Legend Homes, Neil Kelly, Target, Nordstrom, Lucy Active Wear, SERA Architects, ZGF Architects, Jantzen, Columbia Sportswear, and Ancient Inc.

The welcome and keynote presentation is from 9 to 10 a.m.

From 10:15 to 11 a.m., sessions will be held on “Resume Development,” and “Sustainability in Housing and Interior Design.” During this session and others, students may participate in mock interviews or critiques of their portfolios/resumes.

Sessions from 11:20 am to 12:20 p.m. include: “Interviewing Skills” and “Portfolio Development.”

Recent graduates of Apparel Design, Interior Design, Housing Studies and Merchandising Management will discuss their career entry experiences from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
