CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State University College of Veterinary Medicine is hosting a seminar series for horse owners that will help them identify possible signs of illness and lameness in their animals, as well as answer questions about subjects ranging from breeding to weight loss in horses.

The one-hour seminars will be held in Magruder Hall Room 102 from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Mondays through March 2. The seminars are free, though donations will be accepted to offset costs.

All of the sessions in the series will be presented by faculty members in the OSU College of Veterinary Medicine, which last year completed a $12 million expansion of its Lois Bates Acheson Veterinary Teaching Hospital and Large Animal Clinic. Among the features are an intensive care unit and isolation facility for horses and other large animals; a multi-purpose all-weather arena, and a new imaging wing that includes the most sophisticated CT scanner in Oregon.

Jan. 26 – “Navicular Disease,” presented by Nellie Driscoll;

Feb. 2 – “Colic,” by John Schlipf;

Feb. 9 – “Vaccines and parasites,” by Katelyn Romeo;

Feb. 16 – “Breeding the Older Mare: What you can do to Improve Pregnancy and Foaling Rates,” by Michelle Kutzler;

Feb. 23 – “The Fat Horse: Equine Metabolic Syndrome and Cushings Disease,” by Jaime Hustace;

March 2 – “Preventing and Managing Founder,” by Tara Riddick.

Magruder Hall is located on 30th Street and Washington Way, just west of Reser Stadium in Corvallis.
