CORVALLIS, Ore. - Tom Kirch, the director of the Recreational Sports program at Oregon State University, has been named to the board of directors of the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association, or NIRSA.
Kirch had served as president of NIRSA during the last year, and officially was appointed past president and board member at the group's recent national meeting.
Christopher Gormley, a graduate assistant for OSU's Intramural Sports program, was elected as the student representative to NIRSA from Region VI. He will begin his duties on June 20.
The National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association is the leading resource for professional and student development, education and research in collegiate recreational sports. It was established in 1950 and is now headquartered in Corvallis.
NIRSA has nearly 4,000 professional, student and associate members in the United States, Canada and elsewhere, and serves an estimated 5.5 million students who participate in campus recreational sports.
