Oregon State University has received a $5.6 million, five-year grant from the National Institutes of Health to launch a research center devoted to genetic code expansion, which allows for the creation of novel proteins with disease-fighting potential.
KXL’s Annette Newell recently spoke to Dr. Christopher McKnight Nichols, a history professor and author at Oregon State University, who says Vladimir Putin’s lack of a comprehensive strategy is showing up as Russia’s weakness. The following is a transcript from that discussion.

“I’m concentrating on trying to time an accurate poke with the pole syringe as he’s pacing in the cage – I was timing my stick with him swinging his hips to the closest point to me,” said Mandsager, clinical associate professor of anesthesiology at the Oregon State University Carlson College of Veterinary Medicine. When the timing is just right, Mandsager gives a quick jab and the pneumatic device in the pole syringe quickly depresses the pressure-sensitive plunger. Hobbes, a 300-pound tiger, is soon purring like a kitten.

Native American undergrads in natural science summer internships eligible for $2,900 supplemental funding. A 2022 wildfire risk assessment for landscape-scale, cross-boundary projects: The College of Forestry Extension Fire Program sponsored this project for use by local multi-agency/entity Partnerships needing to determine areas to place efforts for education, outreach, grant applications, potential funding and eventual project implementation. Designed to incorporate local information on fire behavior and values at risk, this effort is a foundational piece of information to assist in determining specific areas at highest risk to the hazard of fire.
