Oregon Wheat Commission approves 'substantial' budget, looks to the future (Capital Press)

Hoey said she's "excited" the board dedicated up to $250,000 for an Oregon State University endowment focused on cereal grain pathology. "That's really looking toward the longer-term future for the industry," she said. "The commission has been focused on directing, when we have the opportunity, some of those resources to strengthen our industry."
 

Newly released OSU study could help protect endangered foxes (KLCC)

Researchers at Oregon State University say the results of a new study could help protect a rare and endangered species of fox. The Sierra Nevada red fox lives at high altitudes, including in the Oregon Cascades. But as global temperatures rise, other predators threaten to invade its habitat.
 

OSU receives $642K to develop tool for early diagnosis of invasive diseases in native plants (KTVZ)

Sens. Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley, D-Ore., announced Tuesday that Oregon State University will receive more than $642,000 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to build out a tool that diagnoses invasive diseases in native plants.

Jacobs completes underground infrastructure engineering for US wave energy test site (Offshore Energy)

The PacWave South project in Seal Rock, Oregon, will be the first pre-permitted, full-scale test facility for wave energy devices in the United States, developed jointly by the US Department of Energy (DOE), the State of Oregon, and Oregon State University.
 

OSU joins alliance to give federal workers affordable learning options online (KTVZ)

Federal government employees have access to more affordable learning opportunities online and enhanced career advancement pathways, thanks to a new agreement announced Tuesday between Oregon State University and the U.S. Office of Personnel Management.
 

Microsprinklers tapped to help protect blueberry blooms from heat injury (Growing Produce)

This follows a protocol developed at Oregon State University for summer cooling of fruit. This approach kept the air temperatures below 90°F through the hot period of the day. According to that research, overhead sprinklers or microsprinklers are equally effective for cooling, but microsprinklers used less water. 
 

OSU study to focus on fish and politics (K103)

An Oregon State University researcher has been awarded a three-year, $1.4 million grant from the U.S. Department of Defense to lead a study about the movement of fish stocks due to changing climate conditions and the potential geopolitical tensions that could result from that shift.

Moxie: Empowering Women InnovatorsThe OSU Advantage Innovation Impact Program team recently announced our newest program called Moxie: Empowering Women Innovators. Moxie is a dynamic 15-month program designed to support OSU faculty and researchers (including post-docs and graduate students). Selected participants will receive funding totaling $4,000 throughout the program, be paired with a dedicated innovation and entrepreneurship (I&E) mentor and have support through the crucial early stages of building your innovation concept. Research  Advancement Academy: Interested in applying to the Research Advancement Academy (RAA) for Academic Year 2023-24? Join us at noon June 16 for a Zoom info session (register here). Bioorthhogonal ligations workshop: The GCE4All Research Center is hosting an in-person workshop, "Bioorthogonal Ligations — Clicking with GCE," Aug. 8-12. This five-day intensive lecture and laboratory workshop will cover bioorthogonal ligations using GCE technologies in E.coli and mammalian host systems. Apply now. Core Curriculum for OSU Managers and Supervisors: The Core Curriculum for Managers and Supervisors is a training program for all Oregon State University managers, supervisors and lead workers. At the end of this course, learners will have a solid understanding about the principles and policies that apply to our employees; know how to navigate within the space of talent management activities; recognize when, and how, to provide equal opportunity and access to employees; and more. FourSight Mindset Reveal Workshop: FourSight Mindset Reveal is a new workshop presented by University Human Resources that dives deep into the way that we solve problems together. Applications open for the OSU Engagement Awards of Excellence: As part of the planned annual OSU Engagement Conference (Sept. 5-6), we wish to recognize faculty, staff and community partners for their efforts to develop programs or projects that adhere to the principles of community engagement and engaged scholarship, including reciprocal and mutually beneficial outcomes that address key societal issues and contribute to the inclusive prosperity of OSU’s internal and external stakeholders. Apply for the OSU Engagement Awards. You can apply to one, two or all three awards. Deadline is 11:59 p.m. July 17. Results will be announced Aug. 4.

Student Health Services is moving: The Plageman Student Health Center is permanently closing at 1 p.m. on June 16, and all Student Health Services locations will be closed from June 19-23. Survivor advocacy services will be available during this closure. OSU Student Health will move to three new locations this summer, including the new Health Center next to Reser Stadium. Grads Give Back Gown ShareGrads Give Back is OSU’s Gown Share Program. Monthly Emergency Preparedness Topic: Wildfire. Increasing numbers of people are making their homes in woodland settings, rural areas or remote mountain sites. Wildfires often begin unnoticed, but they spread very quickly. Reduce your risk by preparing now -- before wildfire strikes. Meet with your family to decide what to do and where to go if wildfires threaten your area. Survey on Human Perception of Cat Emotion: The Human-Animal Interaction lab at OSU is currently researching human perception of cats. Participants will view images of cats in different settings and respond to questions related to the cat’s emotional state and their own emotional response. Anyone over 18 is able to participate.
