In 2017, a few small-acreage farmers reached out to Oregon State University Extension Service about possible research on olives, an unlikely new crop they hoped had potential in Oregon. Though Green died in 2021, at age 60 of terminal cancer, both Last Supper and First Meal were in the news in late fall of 2023: Last Supper because of a museum acquisition and First Meal because of a catalog published by Oregon State University Press. The series are intimately related: Last Supper depicts the last meal request of death row prisoners facing execution; First Meal focuses instead on exonerees and on the circumstances surrounding the first food they ate after being released from prison.

OSU International Film Festival: Covenant of the Salmon People. "Covenant of the Salmon People" is a 60-minute documentary portrait of the Nez Perce Tribe as they continue to carry out their ancient promise to protect the Chinook salmon. The Little Gallery Presents: Afghanistan Before the Wars - Photography by Mark Svendsen. The narrative for this exhibit is to acquaint Oregonians with the native beauty of Afghanistan and the universal humanity of its people, and to impart a sense of what life there was like when the country was at peace half a century ago. The exhibit will run Jan. 9 - Feb. 16 in The Little Gallery of Kidder Hall. Free and open to all.

NEW! New Trauma-Informed Yoga class from CAPE: Beginning Jan. 22, CAPE Survivor Advocacy will be hosting a trauma-informed yoga class for survivors of gender-based violence. Racial Advocacy: Racial injustice continues to impact our world. You see it, you feel it, and you’re against it. But, what can you do about it? Many people have a desire to advocate for racial and ethnic minorities, but are simply not sure where to start. This gathering is intended to be an open conversation about the most common and professional struggles faced by racial and ethnic minoritized communities. Adulting 101 Offered through OSU Extension 4H: Join Lane County 4-H for the Adulting 101 series. This five-week course is designed for all teens ages 12-18 in Lane County. Classes include career readiness, budgeting basics, self-defense, emergency preparedness, CPR and first aid certification, food preservation basics, mental health and wellness care, cooking basics and car basics. Adulting 101 is designed to provide teens skills and confidence for entering post-high school life. Internationalization Grant: The Office of Global Engagement has announced the Internationalization Grant application cycle for 2023-24, opening Dec. 1 and closing Jan. 31. This year, the grant is offered in three tracks, aligned with Oregon State University’s new strategic plan “Prosperity Widely Shared,” focusing on research and innovation, global and intercultural learning and career and workforce development. FYI Friday is a program where campus partners are invited to present what they’re working on to a broad audience of professional faculty, academic faculty and classified staff. FourSight Mindset Reveal Workshop: How do you approach a challenge? FourSight Mindset Reveal is a new workshop presented by the Office of University Human Resources that dives deep into the way that we solve problems together. This engaging workshop helps people learn more about their own mindset, learn appreciation for how colleagues work, and together be able create a stronger team environment and reach more creative solutions. BennyBuy: Purchases through the BennyBuy punch-out catalogs for Hewlett Packard (HP) and Bluum (Troxell) are now limited to $25,000 and below. This change was due to the cooperative contracts supporting these punch-out catalogs no longer meeting OSU’s competitive requirements.
