What is lost and what's to be gained at the H.J. Andrews Forest after the Lookout Fire (KLCC)

The H.J. Andrews Experimental Forest covers 25 square miles. It’s a mix of old growth, logged and replanted, and previously burned areas and has been used for research for 75 years. The forest is operated as a partnership between the U.S. Forest Service, the Willamette National Forest, and Oregon State University.

A Peace of My Mind: Exploring Belonging One Story at a Time. Join us for community exploration of community and belonging as Corvallis hosts award-winning photographer John Noltner from Oct. 16-22. This community-building experience will feature photography exhibits, photography sessions and a keynote talk and dialogue, all centered around the question “What does belonging mean to you?” All programs are free and open to the public. CTL QT Talks: Jaqueline Goldman, School of Psychological Science, will speak on “Academic Integrity and Equity: It’s in the Pedagogy..” Plagiarism and other forms of academic misconduct have historically been conceptualized as the intentional and rational decision to cheat, however these assumptions neglect many underlying factors, both environmental and individual, that lead to students taking these shortcuts. Building from current literature, the session will provide pedagogical practices to support students' sense of community and connection and, in the process, explore how this may lead to fewer instances of academic misconduct. 11-11:50 a.m., Oct. 17, LINC 343. Registration.

Information Security Town Hall: Join for a free lunch and an opportunity for the OSU community to hear from the Office of Information Security and learn about common cyber security threats that affect Beaver Nation. There will be an open question-and-answer session as well. Come learn about what you can do to help protect our Cyber Dam and ask any burning questions you might have. Language and Beyond Social: World Languages and Cultures invites students to the Language and Beyond Social. Students can learn about language programs and career opportunities, connect with peers, meet faculty and enjoy sweets and refreshments. Language and Beyond Social is presented by the School of Language, Culture, and Society and will occur at 2 p.m., Oct. 17 in Kidder Hall 210.

Add Glitter to the Archives: A Crafternoon with the OSU Queer Archives. In celebration of both Oregon Archives Month and OSU’s Queer History Month, this free and open-to-the-public crafternoon event will feature copies of materials from the OSU Queer Archives to incorporate in crafting creations. 4-6 p.m. Oct. 19, in the Valley Library main floor lobby. 

NEW! Beavs, Brews and BBQs: This Veterans Day, OSUAA is hosting a flavorful pregame experience for fans with a cook-off and tasting prior to the Stanford football game. JET Program Info Session: OSU students can apply to live and work in Japan after graduation through the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program. Teaching experience and Japanese language ability preferred but not required. The application for 2024 closes on Nov. 17. Pacific madrone tree workshop coming to Roseburg: Participants will learn about the west’s pacific madrone, the largest flowering tree of the family Ericaceae, at “All About Arbutus: A workshop covering pacific madrone from A to Z". The class will spend the morning at the OSU Extension office (1134 SE Douglas Ave., Roseburg, OR) and the afternoon looking at madrone trees in the field. 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m., Oct. 25. The cost for this class is $10 per person with the option to order a boxed lunch for an additional $15 (upon registering). NEW! Want free contraceptive care? Oregon ContraceptiveCare (CCare) is a program funded through a grant from the Centers for Medicaid Services and the Oregon Department of Human Services that allows Student Health Services to provide FREE reproductive health care and contraceptive services to OSU students who meet certain income criteria. UPDATED! Comment period extended to Wednesday, Nov. 8: An updated draft Forest Management Plan for the Elliott State Research Forest has been released and the public comment period is now open. Since early 2019, OSU and the Oregon Department of State Lands have been working collaboratively to explore transforming the Elliott State Forest into a publicly owned research forest. Review the draft plan and provide your comments.

Traffic and Maintenance

UPDATED! Campus Way: The schedule for this project has changed. As part of the West Greenhouse Improvement project, sections of the north sidewalk along SW Campus Way will be closed Oct. 19-Oct. 20. Phase 1 will impact the area between the Seed Laboratory and the West Greenhouses. Phase 2 will impact the area just west of the Seed Laboratory. Pedestrians approaching the area from the east or west may use the crosswalk located at the Seed Laboratory and the south sidewalk to detour around the work area. (View map)

Washington Way: As part of the Washington Way Improvement project, intersection work will occur along SW Washington Way at SW 17th, SW 26th and SW 30th streets from Oct. 16 through Oct. 20.    

Washington Way: As part of the Washington Way Improvement project, Washington Way between 17th and 26th Streets will remain closed through Tuesday, Oct. 31. In addition to the road closure, the sidewalk on the north side of Washington Way between 17th and 26th Streets will be closed. Pedestrians may use the multi-use path on the south side of Washington Way as a detour.
