As wildfire season approaches, scientists from Oregon State University are studying how embers spread flames from one building to another.
Researchers from Oregon State University have been exploring this idea for the past 20 years, studying both the general ecology of chanterelles in Northwest forests and how specific forest management practices can affect their growth.
A new collaborative study co-led by an Oregon State University researcher shows that the use of iron could be the key in creating more affordable and environmentally friendly lithium-ion batteries, college officials said.
The Oregon State University Extension Service is in a good position to help because agents work daily with people in the agriculture sector, according to Cassie Bouska, associate professor of practice in the OSU College of Agricultural Sciences.
Where is the evidence for the changes that have been so widely praised? All across the Northern Range, said Luke Painter, an ecologist at Oregon State University, but it depends on where you look. For example, Blacktail Deer Creek and Crystal Creek have seen significantly more willow and aspen growth than the park’s famous Lamar Valley.
Straw bales take up little space and produce almost anything you can grow in an in-ground garden, said Brooke Edmunds, a horticulturist with Oregon State University Extension Service. The rectangular straw bales bring gardening up to a more manageable height for people with disabilities. And if your soil is impossibly compacted clay, straw bales come to the rescue by providing an organic raised bed without the materials, labor and permanence of built ones.

OSU Land Use Code amendment meetings: OSU Land Use Planning will host a community meeting to discuss proposed amendments to the Corvallis Land Development Code and Comprehensive Plan that impact the Corvallis campus. NEW! Civic Campus Project: The City of Corvallis is exploring improvements to the Civic Campus, which includes City Hall and the Municipal Court. These buildings are located along the historic Madison Avenue corridor, which connects downtown Corvallis with OSU's campus to the west. Improvements are intended to address safety, resiliency, accessibility and energy efficiency. Fulbright Outreach Lecturing Fund: Bring a current Fulbright Visiting Scholar from another university in the U.S. to OSU: A typical OLF visit is two to five days long, with the scholar completing guest lectures, cultural events and other similar engagements on and off campus. Automated Driving System research: The School of Civil and Construction Engineering and the School of Psychological Science are seeking paid volunteers for research studies. The purpose of this research study is to make Automated Driving System (ADS) vehicles safer for pedestrians with disabilities. To participate in one of the studies, you must identify as having a visual, hearing, and/or mobility disability, and be at least 18 years old. Volunteers must commit 60 minutes to the research and will either wear a VR headset or a light-weight wearable device. 30th Street: SW 30th Street will be closed in both directions between SW Washington Way and SW Campus Way on Tuesday, May 28 for pothole repairs. The east-west intersection at SW Jefferson Way will remain open during this closure. Sidewalks will remain open.
Campus Way: As part of the Kelley District Utility Plant project, SW Campus Way between SW 26th Street and SW Memorial Place will be closed May 29-June 10. The closure is necessary to allow for crane activity related to the project. Unlike recent, intermittent closures related to the project, this will be a continuous closure of Campus Way. The Kelley Engineering Center south entrance will also be closed. The north sidewalk and both bicycle lanes in this section of Campus Way will be closed during this time period.
