A new study by researchers at Oregon State University found that fish embryos exposed to tiny amounts of pesticides for four days experienced lasting behavioral changes. It also found that the offspring of those fish also experienced changes in behavior and had altered development and gene expression even though they were not exposed to the commonly used pesticides.

PERS workshops on campus Feb. 27: “Retirement Readiness,” 1-3 p.m., for Tier One and Tier Two members within three years of retirement. “All About OPSRP,” 9-11 a.m., for OPSRP members at any career point. Presentations are given by a PERS employee and include an overview of benefits, retirement process, member resources and Q&A. Both workshops will be held in Memorial Union Room 104. Religion and Social Change: An Interfaith Dialogue: Eliza Young Barstow, senior instructor of religious studies, is hosting a series of panels featuring a diverse collection of religious leaders from the Willamette Valley who have agreed to gather and discuss challenging social issues. The sessions will be panel discussions, with questions asked by Barstow. Toward the end of each session there will be time for audience questions. The first session is at 4 p.m. Feb. 27 in the La Raza Room of the Memorial Union and focuses on birth control and abortion.
Say Hey: Say Hey will be hosted at OSU from 5:30-8 p.m. Feb. 27 by the Portland Partners in Diversity. The goal is to help connect local businesses and community members with professionals of color. Employees of color are honored at the event and encouraged to register as honorees. Community members and allies are encouraged to attend also to support building community and connections. OSU Authors and Editors Recognition Series: The Authors and Editors Recognition Series celebrates the literary and scholarly books published by university faculty by featuring selected authors and editors for readings and discussion. $15K of Funding Available: The OSU Advantage Accelerator is seeking applications that describe technology-based projects in any discipline that will move OSU-owned technologies closer to commercialization. Tucker named academic director for DSI: Julie Tucker has been named academic director for the Design for Social Impact program. She served as interim academic director since October. Tucker joined Oregon State in 2013 and was promoted to full professor in 2023. She will maintain a part-time appointment as professor in the School of Mechanical, Industrial, and Manufacturing Engineering. The DSI program brings together faculty from multiple disciplines and is focused on the creation and delivery of experiential curricular and co-curricular education centered on design, innovation and social impact.
Seeking Solutions Faculty Fellow Positions in the Center for Teaching and Learning: The Center for Teaching and Learning is seeking applications for Faculty Fellows for the 2024-25 academic year to design and facilitate a Seeking Solutions teacher training program, coordinate and support team teaching of Seeking Solutions courses, and consult with faculty on best practices for meeting the learning outcomes and criteria of the Seeking Solutions category in their courses. Symposium: The 2024 Research Advances in Fisheries, Wildlife, and Ecology Symposium (RAFWAE) will take place on April 12 in Peavy Hall. Graduate and undergraduate students who conduct research in the fields of fisheries, wildlife and ecology at OSU or other universities are invited to present their work at this conference, at any stage of development: proposal, data collection, preliminary results, published in Science, or research-adjacent talks about outreach, art or other topics. Deadline for abstract submission is March 15.

Taste Sensitivity Study: We are looking for participants for a research study examining how hunger state influences taste sensitivities to carbohydrates. Participants must be healthy, non-diabetic non-smokers ages 18-45. The study will involve performing taste sensitivity tests before and after eating a provided meal.
