April snow in Oregon unusual but not unprecedented, climatologist says (KATU)

"There was one other time in 1953 on May 8th, which was the latest measurable snowfall at the Portland airport. It was like half an inch. Not much," said Larry O'Neill, associate professor with Oregon State University and Oregon state climatologist.

Loud porcupines rescued from wildfire are heading home (LMT Online)

Today's photos

Contrast: Maia Farriscoordinator of communications and marketing for the College of Education, says, “I love watching the trees slowly changing into spring. I noticed this tree in my neighborhood and thought it represented the transition between winter and spring beautifully.”

BeaverHenge: David Hendrix, associate professor with the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics, says, “Here is a photo of what I call 'BeaverHenge,' which can be seen around the spring and fall equinox. Campus sits on a north/south/east/west grid, and Campus Way goes east-west. So I figured that at some point, near the equinox, the sun would set and be visible in the skybridge connecting ALS and Cordley. If you are far enough away from the skybridge, then you don't see any sky under the bridge, just through that window. So I thought it could be a cool tradition to go and see the sun set through that window, and it is visible twice a year, at the spring and fall equinox, which coincides with the beginnings of Spring and Fall terms respectively. It is a cool moment to reflect on the changing seasons, and the changing arc of the sun's trajectory across the sky.” We are accepting photo submissions at osutoday@oregonstate.edu
