“The benefits for the fishers is they clearly catch much more and sometimes larger mullet fish when they follow the dolphins’ cues,” says Mauricio Cantor, a behavioral ecologist at Oregon State University. “Especially because the water can be very murky, so you simply cannot see where the fish are.”

Data gathered by backcountry skiers, avalanche forecasters and other snow recreationists and professionals has the potential to greatly improve snowpack modeling, research by the Oregon State University College of Engineering indicates.
First, of course, is the space, according to Jim Myers, a professor of vegetable breeding and genetics at Oregon State University. Myers advises focusing on three key things: “Lots of sunlight, good water and good soil.” Suburban soil can lean toward the clay side, so Myers suggests “adding sand and organic matter to loosen up the soil.” Using compost and feather meal will help make sure the patch is nutrient-rich and well-drained.

Green was born in 1961 in Yokosuka, Japan, where their father was stationed with the Navy. According to Harrison Smith of the Washington Post, their family ultimately settled in Des Moines. Green earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Kansas, where they studied illustration and design. For the past two decades, they taught art at Oregon State University.
