Researchers at Oregon State University have concluded that a large-scale dam removal and restoration project currently underway on the Klamath River in southern Oregon and northern California will help salmon populations, according to college officials.
Damage analysis of Copernicus Sentinel-1 satellite data by Corey Scher of CUNY Graduate Center and Jamon Van Den Hoek of Oregon State University. Damage data as of 11:45 a.m. Eastern on Oct. 29. Population data is sourced from the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
By employing elemental microchemistry at Oregon State University's W.M. Keck Collaboratory for Plasma Spectrometry, researchers delved into the larval environment of 90 fishes, concluding that all spent their larval stage in saltwater. Jessica Miller, an Oregon State University professor, commended Cody's work as pivotal for future research and conservation of endemic Hawaiian gobies like 'o'opu.
I talked with fire ecologist Meg Krawchuk (Oregon State University) about the double-edged sword that wildfires have increasingly become. She studies not only the science of fire but its social and cultural ramifications, and she believes that understanding our past relationship to fire can help us navigate our present interactions with a changing climate.

NEW! Art exhibit: The Department of Botany and Plant Pathology has announced the opening of an art exhibition showcasing eight larger than life works by Maxwell Eckelbarger. Displayed on the first and second floors of Cordley Hall, the exhibition is made up of two collections on loan from the Plant Cell Atlas Consortium and Carnegie Institution for Science, Department of Plant Biology (Stanford, CA). The banners are available to visit during business hours, Monday to Friday 8 a.m.-6 p.m. in the hallways of the first and second floor of the recently remodeled West Wing of Cordley Hall.

Willamette Valley PhotoArts Guild presents “Artistic License:” The exhibit features more than 80 black-and-white and color photographs by 25 members of the PhotoArts Guild who were asked to exercise their creative freedom for the group’s 13th biennial exhibit at the Giustina Gallery at The LaSells Stewart Center. Deadline extended: The Open Educational Resources Unit is accepting proposals for the Affordable Learning Grant until Nov. 30. Faculty can receive up to $15,000 in funding to adopt, adapt or author an open educational resource (OER) for your course. OER are openly licensed course materials that save students money and make higher education more accessible. Blood sugar study participants sought: Researchers in the College of Health at OSU are studying the effects of an FDA-approved drug on people at risk for high blood sugar. We are looking for study participants between the age of 18-59, who are nonsmokers, and who do not have diabetes. The study involves several visits to the Samaritan Athletic Medicine Center in Corvallis over approximately 4 months. Faculty Senate Elections – Faculty with Split Appointments: Non-tenured faculty who have split appointments between two apportionment units may choose with which unit they wish to be apportioned for Faculty Senate purposes. For example, if a faculty member has a split appointment between Agricultural Sciences and Science, they may choose one or the other (FTE will not be split between apportionment units). This choice will determine Faculty Senate representation. No later than noon Nov. 14, complete and submit the survey at https://oregonstate.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_1LcbN37K4QRvr02 to indicate with which apportionment unit you wish to be included.

Yoga and Meditation Class Scholarships for OSU Undergrads: OSU undergraduates are invited to apply for financial support to attend classes at Marigold: the OSU Center for Contemplative Practice. Initial scholarship covers 80% of class fees for yoga, meditation and dance classes. Additional funding is available for upcoming programs such as mindful self-compassion, lucid dreaming and more. Kerr: As part of the Kerr Administration South Parking Lot Improvement project, the Kerr South parking lot closure has been extended until Dec. 4 to finish construction activities, including lighting installation, paving and striping.
