TRACE OSU testing: OSU is providing random COVID-19 TRACE OSU testing by invitation for students, faculty and staff Monday-Thursday weekly on the Corvallis campus and Monday-Thursday every other week on the OSU-Cascades campuses and at the Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport. Oregon State president F. King Alexander on Wednesday afternoon emailed a statement to the school’s staff, asking the campus to “contribute to a community free of sexual misconduct, harassment.”
A few years ago, the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde approached the state of Oregon about reestablishing a fishing platform at Willamette Falls. “The people on the board or at the agency they approached basically said they felt weird that they were asking them for permission,” said Natchee Barnd, an assistant professor of ethnic studies and Native American studies at Oregon State University. “Of course they should be able to do this. It was a really poignant moment of recognizing the moral dilemma in the power dynamics.”
Political activist Angela Davis was announced Wednesday as the keynote speaker for Oregon State University's annual Martin Luther King Day celebration in 2021.
Raíces also collaborates extensively with other local organizations for educational and economic development purposes. The farm partners with the Master Gardener program through Oregon State University Extension Service, which provides workshops on everything from soil health to plant propagation techniques. For the first project, the Coffee Science Foundation, in conjunction with the Simonelli Group, awarded a grant to a research group comprised of professors from the University of Oregon, Oregon State University, and the University of Portsmouth in the United Kingdom. Led by Dr. Christopher Hendon, the team will undertake a four year long deep dive into espresso extraction.
NuScale Power and Oregon State University have created, through their 20 year long partnership, a collaborative learning environment called the E2 Center, which opened Tuesday, Nov. 17 on the OSU campus.
The Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA) and Oregon State University Extension are again partnering to provide free KN95 masks to farmworkers, farmers, ranchers, fishers, food processors, and farm labor contractors to protect Oregon’s food and fiber workers.
TRACE OSU: All OSU students living in the Corvallis, Bend and Newport areas are invited to be tested beginning Monday, Nov. 16, through Thursday, Nov. 19, and do not need to be enrolled in TRACE OSU to participate. Testing results are expected to be available to students within 72 hours and by Tuesday, Nov. 24, at the latest. Measuring Student Learning Outcomes Across Courses: Cross-course rubrics allow undergraduate programs to highlight student learning in multiple courses using one assessment tool. Some programs assess an SLO in different courses across their program, some in different classes of the same course and some in different courses each year. Creating a cross-course rubric can provide more standardized results and enable easier data analysis. NROTC Beaver Heroes Blood Drive is asking for support from the OSU community to donate blood. It is being held off-campus at the First Presbyterian Church of Corvallis on Nov. 19 from 1-6 p.m. When you donate blood you will be tested for COVID-19 and social distancing and screening will be involved. U.S. 20 Safety Upgrades (Albany to Corvallis) Online Open House: ODOT is holding an online open house from Oct. 19-Nov. 15 to share information and gather comments from the public regarding safety improvements along U.S. 20 between North Albany and Corvallis. A U.S. 20 Highway Safety Study recommended a variety of safety improvements along this corridor, which ODOT is planning to construct in phases. University Budget Committee: The University Budget Committee (UBC) will meet this Friday, Nov. 20 from 2-3:30 p.m. via Zoom. The UBC is OSU’s advisory body to the Provost for recommendations on tuition rates, budget priorities, and budget policies. Search Advocate Workshops: More OSU Search Advocate workshops are now available by Zoom. Search advocates are outside process advisors who participate on employee search committees; their goal is to encourage culture and practices that favor equity, validity and diversity. Search advocacy offers faculty and staff an opportunity to work with colleagues in other parts of the university, build new skills and perspectives, and contribute to the university’s progress towards inclusive excellence. The initial workshop series is a sequence of four 4-hour Zoom workshops. Those who complete the series may choose to have their names added to the Search Advocate Directory and will be eligible to serve as advocates until September 2021. NEW! $15K of Funding Available: The OSU Advantage Accelerator is currently seeking proposals that describe technology-based projects in any discipline that will move OSU-owned technologies closer to commercialization. Proposals should describe a project that requires $15,000 or less of funding to achieve an important milestone(s) connected to commercialization. Proposals can include expenses for activities related to customer discovery, prototyping, student time, research, commercialization plan development and more. Faculty member for the Board of Trustees: The OSU Faculty Senate Executive Committee is soliciting nominations and applications for the Faculty Member position on the OSU Board of Trustees. This is a two-year position beginning July 1, 2021 and ending June 30, 2023. Those eligible to apply include all faculty who are eligible to be elected to the Faculty Senate (academic, research and professional faculty), with the exception of administrators who hold an Executive Level 1, 2 or 3 position (Dean or above). Applications are due on Nov. 20, 2020. Naval ROTC Toys for Tots Drive: For three months each year during the Christmas season, the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation leads communities in collecting and distributing toys for children in need. Unfortunately, NROTC will NOT be collecting donations this year due to current restrictions, but you can still help bring joy and hope to less fortunate children this Christmas season by donating through this link.
UPDATED: NW Orchard Avenue closure extended through Nov. 30: NW Orchard Avenue closed between NW 30th and NW 27th Streets. As part of the Cordley Hall renovation and the construction of the North District Utility Plant, NW Orchard Avenue between NW 30th and NW 27th Streets has been closed since Monday, Oct. 26 and will remain closed through Monday Nov. 30. Please view the online map for detailed closure area information. Once it reopens, NW Orchard Avenue will be a one-way street, eastbound only, for the duration of the Cordley Hall renovation.
