That’s why some researchers are working on varieties of hops that can better withstand summer heat, warmer winters, changing pests and diseases and less snowfall, which could mean less available irrigation, said Shaun Townsend, an associate professor and senior researcher at Oregon State University. Mr. Townsend is working on a project where he subjects hops to drought stress to eventually create more drought-tolerant varieties.
One of those conferences is one of the oldest in college sports. The Pac-12 is on the verge of being extinct. Next year, only two schools will call the Pac-12 home. Kurt Williams, the laboratory director at OSU, said too little is known about the disease to advise dog owners on how to avoid it. Canine respiratory diseases like kennel cough are common, and many dogs can recover if they are fully vaccinated.
Rodas Gonzalo Rodas-Martin, 22, of Cottage Grove lit a mortar firework in his hand, and the firework exploded, causing serious injuries to his hands. Preliminary reports indicated he was not a student of the Corvallis-based school.

Without a strong customer base, Rebecca Thistlethwaite, director of the Niche Meat Processor Assistance Network at Oregon State University, fears that many small processors will fail. She cited a University of Illinois study that suggested success is contingent upon local demand. “It’s not a field of dreams situation; it’s not an ‘If you build it, they will come,’” Thistlethwaite said. “You can’t build supply chains without having that end consumer.”
Chance White Eyes, an assistant professor of Native American studies at Southern Oregon University and an alumnus of Oregon State University, has been named the inaugural director of Tribal relations at Oregon State. He starts Dec. 15. (see also KMTR)
Oregon State University will receive $6.5 million in federal funding over a five-year period for research related to updating the National Spatial Reference System, a coordinate system that defines geographical elements ranging from longitude and latitude to height and orientation, the college said.

Investigations of Gut Microbiome Modulation from Grains, Berries, and their Phytochemical Compounds: Frank Carbonera is a microbial ecologist from Washington State University with a specific interest in nutrition and gut microbiome. His research specifically focuses on the impact of consumption of non-digestible phytochemicals on the animal and human gut microbiome. The Dive of a Lifetime to the Deepest Place on Earth: Dawn Wright, a.k.a. "Deepsea Dawn,” is the first Black person to dive to the deepest spot on the entire planet - Challenger Deep. Pedestrian experiment: The OSU School of Civil and Construction Engineering is seeking participants for a study examining how people use intersections. Participants must be at least 18 years old, have normal or corrected-to-normal vision (glasses and contacts are OK) and feel comfortable walking approximately 1 mile total. Attention vehicle owners parked on Southwest 11th Street near campus: City of Corvallis has requested that vehicles parked in a specially marked tow-away zone on 11th Street south of Madison, north of Adams and north of Washington immediately move their vehicles to avoid being towed due to construction work taking place starting Monday.
EXTENDED! Campus Way Closure, 26th Street to Memorial Place: As part of the Kelley District Utility Plant project, SW Campus Way will be closed between SW 26th Street and SW Memorial Place from Nov. 6-27 to allow for crane activity.
Traffic diverted to temporary Van Buren bridge starting in mid-November: Commuters to campus may notice a traffic pattern change between downtown Corvallis and the east side of the Willamette River. Starting in mid-November, eastbound traffic will be diverted onto a temporary bridge on NW Van Buren Ave. The temporary bridge includes a separate path for pedestrians and bicyclists. The paths underneath the bridge will remain closed. A temporary signal at NW Van Buren Ave. and NW First Street will control traffic flow and NW First Street will change from two-way to one-way traffic for one block north and south of the Van Buren bridge. Kerr: As part of the Kerr Administration South Parking Lot Improvement project, the Kerr South parking lot closure has been extended until Dec. 4 to finish construction activities, including lighting installation, paving and striping. This includes the closure of the west sidewalk. ADA access is available on the east side of the building.
