This paper “is really just scratching the surface,” agrees Chris Goldfinger, a professor of marine geology at Oregon State University. Goldfinger wasn’t involved in the new study, but is one of the world’s foremost experts on the Cascadia subduction zone. “They’ve done a tremendous amount of work, but the dataset has much more depth to it. NEW! EPA lecture: EPA’s Mark Johnson will host Martin Thomas for a guest seminar at 10:30 a.m., June 10, in the EPA Building, 200 SW 35th St., Room 100. Thomas will give a seminar on quantifying surface properties of porous materials. He will provide a survey of methods that can be utilized to characterize these materials. He will discuss evaluating gas sorption/desorption Isotherm data to measure parameters like pore volume, pore size distribution, external surface area and many other parameters needed to characterize particles and bulk systems.

Washington Way: The sidewalk closure on 35th Street, approaching the Washington Way intersection, has been extended through Thursday, June 20. Flagging operations and traffic delays will continue intermittently through Thursday, June 20. Sidewalk closure signs and barriers will be in place on 35th Street, on both the east and west sidewalks, approaching the Washington Way intersection. Pedestrians should plan to use Jefferson Way, 30th Street and the multi-use path on Washington Way to detour around the area. No crosswalk access will be available at the intersection of Washington Way and 35th Street The multi-use path on Washington Way will remain accessible from 35th Street.
