Diversity Science Colloquia: Seeing Asian Americans with Jin X. Goh. Jin X. Goh is an assistant professor of psychology at Colby College. Goh will focus on how the perceived prototypicality of East Asians and the non-prototypicality of South Asians are limited to the U.S. and not the UK, owing to different historical patterns of Asian migrations in the two countries, and will discuss the theoretical and methodological implications of having an East Asian prototype. 4 p.m., Feb. 5 in the George W. Phi Beta Kappa Visiting Scholar: Emily Yeh (University of CO Boulder) will discuss some of the multidimensional impacts climate change is having on the Tibetan Plateau. The talk will also explain climate justice and why Tibetan herders are experiencing impacts of injustice through environmental change and the policies being proposed for adaptation. 4:30 p.m., Feb. 5 in the Journey Room (MU 104). Computers Are Invocational Media: A Live Talk with Chris Chesher. Knight-Hennessy Scholars Stanford University Information Session: In this session, an admission officer provides an overview of Knight-Hennessy Scholars, a multidisciplinary, multicultural graduate scholarship program for three years of support at Stanford University. EXTENDED! Internationalization Grant: The deadline for the 2023-24 Internationalization Grant has been extended 5 p.m., Feb. 16. Grants of up to $5,000 are offered for projects that advance internationalization within one of three tracks, aligned with “Prosperity Widely Shared”: Research and Innovation; Global and Intercultural Learning; and Career and Workforce Development. Eligibility varies by track but includes academic faculty, professional faculty, INTO OSU employees and student organizations. Full details are available on the website.

Monthly Emergency Preparedness Topic: Shelter. Seeking appropriate shelter is critical in times of disaster. Sheltering is appropriate when conditions require you to seek protection in your home, place of employment or other location when disaster strikes. Application opening Feb. 5 for WOHESC funding: The Sustainability Office, Community Engagement & Leadership, and ASOSU are excited to offer OSU students an opportunity to attend the 2024 Washington Oregon Higher Education Sustainability Conference (WOHESC) taking place March 4-6 at Western Washington University. Up to 18 students will be funded to participate. Funding will be offered on a first-come-first-served basis to students who complete the application opening by 7 p.m., Feb. 5.  

Tree School: Tree School Clackamas, Oregon’s largest forestry and natural resource education event of the year, will open registration at 10 a.m., Feb. 6. The Clackamas Tree School on Saturday, March 23, will feature 73 classes covering key topics to support the successful management of small woodlands. People can register online, in person or by mail. $15K of funding available: The OSU Advantage Accelerator is currently seeking applications that describe technology-based projects in any discipline that will move OSU-owned technologies closer to commercialization. Proposals should describe a project that requires $15,000 or less of funding to achieve an important milestone(s) connected to commercialization. Each project may be awarded up to $15,000 and should span six months or less, beginning in March 2024.
