TRACE OSU testing: TRACE OSU is providing random COVID-19 testing by invitation at its Corvallis and Bend campuses and at the Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport. Testing will take place in Corvallis in the Memorial Union Ballroom and at Reser ticket booths, Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. In Newport, testing will be provided every other week beginning Jan. 19, Monday through Wednesday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and Thursday 9 a.m.-2 p.m. At OSU-Cascades, testing is provided only to students living and working on campus. Before Oregon State University closed it down in 1995, the Horner was a local landmark and a cultural touchstone for generations of schoolchildren from around the state, who were bused to Corvallis to gaze at the museum’s assemblage of Oregon Country artifacts and pet Horner mascot Bruce the Moose. (All that touching was hard on poor Bruce, who has now been fully restored and occupies a place of honor in the new museum’s lobby, where no petting is allowed.)
Forests and ecosystems around the globe are struggling due to many factors, the most volatile of which are pests and a rapidly changing climate. With the loss of forests comes the loss of a large source of industry, employment, and energy production. GREAT TREES, a research consortium based out of Oregon State University, is looking to provide assistance to the global forest industry to help forests survive and thrive.
Before 2009, when a team of chemists at Oregon State University developed a colour now known as YInMn Blue, it had been 200 years since the last inorganic blue pigment – cobalt – was created.
Many students prefer to turn off their cameras. Oregon State University’s Center for Teaching and Learning created a list of the pros and cons of requiring students to turn on their cameras during virtual classes.
For instance, recent research led by Prof. Aimee Huff of Oregon State University highlights the following: “[I]n the U.S., recreational cannabis remains illegal at the federal level, and while it has shed many of its countercultural associations, its consumption maintains associations with delinquency for many mainstream consumers, including those who have consumed it in the past. […] In short, full public acceptance of the market has not yet been attained […]”
Postcards to Campus is an ongoing project centered around the OSU community. This project is open for submissions of mailed, dropped off or uploaded postcards. OSU community members are encouraged to share art, writings and sentiments on their postcards that range from personal to OSU-specific. NEW! Evolution of the Corvallis Campus: What does Charles Darwin and the theory of evolution have to do with the Corvallis campus of Oregon State? Darwin was good friends with George Coote, who was the first horticulturalist at what was then called the Oregon Agricultural College. Professor Coote had a hand in the evolution of the layout and landscapes of the campus around the turn of the century, including the planting of elms along the east campus pathway. The Corvallis campus doesn’t look the way it looks by accident; there has been careful guidance from its inception in 1868 to even the newest landscapes and buildings. A collection of OSU’s Favorite Recipes Cookbook: The OSU Foundation and the OSU Alumni Association are still collecting recipes to make a cookbook to benefit the Annual Food Drive. With your help, we have collected over 100 recipes from Foundation/OSUAA staff, campus colleagues, alumni and friends. Our goal is 150 recipes, so please help us by submitting a recipe today. This is a 2-step process; it takes about a minute to fill out the form with basic information, and we will follow up with a personalized recipe template for you to fill out. We have extended the deadline to submit your recipes to Friday, Feb. 26 by 5 p.m. We have many recipes that are gluten-free, vegetarian, dairy-free and more.
