Dr. Marcia Walker recently spent years working with big food companies. But she’s now the director at the Food Innovation Center, a Portland-based part of Oregon State University.
For the 10th consecutive year, U.S. News and World Report has named Oregon State University one of the top 10 places in the nation to obtain an undergraduate degree online. OSU is ranked fourth, along with Arizona State University and North Carolina State University, for best online bachelor’s programs which were evaluated on factors such as faculty credentials and graduation rates.
A fourth sighting off the coast of Miami in late December by a fishing charter only deepened the mystery. Now, an Oregon State University whale researcher based in Newport is wondering if something much more profound is going on.
“I think that people who eat white flour, white rice, de-germinated corn — in other words, grains that have had part of their nutrients taken away — are coming up short,” Mr. Moore said in 2017 in an interview for an Oregon State University oral history. “I think our diets, nationally, and international probably, show the fact that we just have allowed ourselves to be sold a bill of goods.”
Kennedy Cole, a college junior studying accounting, knew she wanted to attend school outside her native Nevada to expand her choices, meet new people and explore different places. Emma Nichols, a sophomore majoring in vocal performance, chose a school close to her home in Corvallis, Oregon. The two friends, Oregon State University tour ambassadors who guide prospective students and families around campus, both think they made the right decision.
OSU–Cascades is seeking $24 million from the Oregon Legislature to expedite the next phase of its land remediation, which will provide space over the next decade to serve the growing campus’s academic, research and student housing needs.
One of the highlights of the conference will be a keynote address by Ken Frost, a renowned plant pathologist from Oregon State University. Frost is well-regarded for leading an extension program dedicated to research-based improvements in vegetable disease management, particularly in potatoes.
Oregon State University research found that the state has lost about 58% of its historical tidal wetlands. Much of that loss is from development.

Music à la Carte: Opus Magnum, classical duo of voice and piano, Nathaniel Kondrat, bass, and Ana Maria Lupu, piano. Bass vocalist Nathaniel Kondrat, ’08, studied voice at OSU and received his master's degree in music from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music in 2011. Kondrat's repertoire includes Shubert, Schumann, Williams, Beethoven and Finzi. Pianist and accompanist Ana Maria Lupu began her artistic career in 2008 at the Lyceum of Music for Gifted Children in Chisinau, Moldova, where she took part in numerous competitions in her homeland. "No Future": A New Play by Sophie Brown. OSU Theatre presents No Future, a new play written, directed and designed by OSU students that explores the complexity of friendship and art while celebrating the music and spirit of the early punk scene. Human-robot interaction: An evaluation is being conducted to understand good (and bad) ways for robot systems to pick up objects. Participants will be asked to watch videos of a robot system picking up various objects and complete questionnaires. The entire study procedure is expected to take one hour. Call for Submissions: Climate Stories in Action. The Spring Creek Project is partnering with Terrain.org on “Climate Stories in Action,” a new call for creative submissions to inspire collective action on climate change. We are inviting storytellers to submit narratives and art that center solutions, introduce us to everyday climate heroes and showcase the joy discovered through community engagement.
