CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State University's forensics team attended the Steven Hunt Classic at Lewis and Clark College in Portland recently and took home individual wins in several events.

The tournament, the first of the regular Northwest Forensics Conference season, featured nearly 40 universities from across the United States, including the University of Nevada in Reno, William Jewell College in Mo., Texas Tech, and Regis University in Denver.

"The rebuilding spirit of last year is paying dividends," said Mark Porrovecchio, director of the team.  "Returning students and talented newcomers are inspiring each other to do well against national competition."

Cody Connolly of Salem was third best speaker and took first place overall in the junior division of international public debate. Returning member Esther Rodriguez of Woodburn was awarded sixth place in novice impromptu. New team member Mike Springer of Rockaway Beach, Ore. placed fifth in open dramatic interpretation.

The travel squad included Alec Grerstad of Gresham, Brytann Busick of Ferndale, Calif., and Brittany Williams of Klamath Falls.

Celebrating its 120th season, OSU Forensics is one of the oldest clubs on campus. The team is open to all students in good academic standing. For information, email mark.porrovecchio@oregonstate.edu.
