CORVALLIS, Ore. - With Valentine's Day around the corner, the February Corvallis Science Pub will delve into a subject of concern to lovers everywhere: sexual health.

Marie Harvey and Jocelyn Warren of the Oregon State University College of Public Health and Human Sciences will present statistics on sexual health in the United States and discuss their own research with young adult couples in Oregon and California.

In their surveys, they have found that miscommunication between partners is common over issues such as monogamy and the use of birth control.

The researchers have developed new survey methods that seek opinions from both members of a couple instead of just one. They have received funding from the National Institutes for Health and the Centers for Disease Control.

Harvey has focused on women's reproductive health in the U.S. for the past 25 years. In 2008, she received the Carl Schultz Award for Lifetime Achievement in the field of Population, Family Planning and Reproductive Health from the American Public Health Association.

The program begins at 6 p.m. on Feb. 13 at the Old World Deli, 341 Second St. in Corvallis. It is free and open to the public.
