CORVALLIS, Ore. - Fiction writers Julie Orringer and Ryan Harty will team up for a combined reading at Oregon State University, beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb.16, at OSU's Valley Library. The reading is free and open to the public.

Award-winning novelist Orringer will read from her recent publication, "The Invisible Bridge" (Knopf, 2010). "The Invisible Bridge" follows the life of a Hungarian-Jewish architecture student studying in Paris in the late 1930s. The novel has been praised widely and was called "one of the best books of the year" by Junot Diaz.

"The Invisible Bridge" follows Orringer's best-selling fiction collection, "How to Breathe Underwater" (Knopf, 2003) which was called "fiercely beautiful" by The New York Times. She is the recipient of two Pushcart Prizes, and her work has appeared in numerous anthologies.

Following Orringer's reading, critically acclaimed short story author Harty will share examples of his recent fiction. His debut collection, "Bring Me Your Saddest Arizona," (University of Iowa Press) was named a San Francisco Chronicle Best Book of the Year.

Harty and Orringer's appearances in Corvallis is part of the 2011-12 Visiting Writers Series, and is made possible by contributions from The Valley Library, the OSU Department of English, the College of Liberal Arts, Kathy Brisker and Tim Steele, and the OSU Beaver Store.
