CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State University is among 41 "Best Buy Schools" named in the 2013 edition of "The Fiske Guide to Colleges," and one of only two in the Pacific Northwest named to the list (Evergreen State College in Washington is the other).

Schools included on the list are ranked as inexpensive or moderately priced, and have four- or five-star academic ratings.

"OSU has a long-standing commitment to combining outstanding academic programs with reasonable tuition costs and excellent co-curricular learning opportunities," said Susie Brubaker-Cole, Associate Provost for Academic Success and Engagement at OSU. "We take great pride in knowing that our diverse students come here to learn and flourish for a reasonable price that's increasingly uncommon in today's higher education landscape."

Estimated tuition and fees for the 2012-13 school year for resident undergraduates at OSU is $8,091.

In selecting Best Buy schools, the Fiske Guide reviewed more than 300 colleges and named 20 public and 21 private schools as "Best Buys."

Former New York Times education editor Edward Fiske launched the guide in 1980 as a way to aid college-bound students and their families in selecting a university. The guide ranks universities by price, but also indicates which schools offer the best academics at a relatively moderate cost.

The Fiske Guide to Colleges delivers an insider's look at the academic climates and the social and extracurricular scenes at the "best and most interesting" schools in the U.S., plus Canada and Great Britain.
