PORTLAND, Ore. - A documentary film, "Relentless," chronicling a year in the life of the champion Global Formula Racing team at Oregon State University, will debut in a free public screening on Wednesday, April 18, at the OMNIMAX Theater at OMSI in Portland.

Seating is limited and available on a first-come basis.

Doors will open to the public at 6:30 p.m., the formula cars will be available for viewing in the lobby, and the 35-minute documentary will start at 7:15 p.m. Following the screening, members of the team will share their personal experiences and answer questions.

The Global Formula Racing team is made up of students in a multinational partnership who design and build formula cars for an extremely competitive international racing circuit. With members from OSU and DHBW Ravensburg, Germany, this is only the third team in history to win back-to-back national championships.

The documentary was produced and directed by Justin Smith, as a collaboration at OSU of University Relations and Marketing and the College of Engineering.

Students in the Formula SAE program spend thousands of hours working on the cars, adjusting designs and optimizing their performance. They develop skills in aerodynamics, chassis construction, and mechanical engineering, but also fund raising, business development and other tasks. These project management and teamwork skills are highly valued by many companies and frequently lead to job offers, educators say.
