CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State University will host auditions May 19-20, and a special workshop for actors on May 18, for the upcoming summer production of its University Theatre's popular outdoor Bard in the Quad.
This summer's play will be one of Shakespeare's most popular comedies, "As You Like It." Performance dates are Aug. 3-7 and Aug. 10-14 in the Memorial Union quad.
The play will be directed by Sheila Daniels, who has served as associate director of Seattle's Intiman Theatre and co-founded and served as co-artistic director of both Theater Under Ground and Baba Yaga Productions. Daniels is an alumnus of the University Theatre program at OSU who has gone on to success as a theater director and teacher, serving as resident director at Cornish College of the Arts until 2008.
Auditions for the production will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. May 19 and 20 in the Withycombe lab theatre. A prepared piece is encouraged, but not required. Auditions are open to all from the campus community and the general public.
Interested actors are strongly encouraged to attend a free workshop, "The Viewpoints," from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18. This physically rigorous approach to theater focuses on specificity, daring and expressivity, according to OSU's Marion Rossi.
The workshop will take place on the Withycombe Hall main stage.
Information about the audition requirements can be obtained by calling Rossi at 541-737-4917 or go to http://oregonstate.edu/bardinthequad/
