CORVALLIS, Ore. -- John Porter, a 1983 graduate in business from Tualatin, Ore., has been named president of the Oregon State University Alumni Association Board of Directors. Porter is president and chief executive officer at AAA Oregon/Idaho, headquartered in Portland.

The association board also named a full slate of officers to work with Porter; his and their one-year terms as officers start July 1. The officers and a representative from the OSU Foundation board of trustees form the alumni association's executive committee.

Other members of the executive committee are: Joth Ricci, a 1991 education graduate from Portland, first vice president; Linda Hirneise, a 1975 business graduate from Agoura Hills, Calif., second vice president; Pam Stebbeds Knowles, a 1977 liberal arts graduate from Portland, who will continue for a second year as treasurer; Penny Atkins, a 1979 business graduate from Caldwell, Idaho, immediate past president and alumni board representative to the OSU Foundation Board of Trustees, and Elise McClure, a 1981 business graduate from Portland, who is the OSUF trustees' representative to the alumni board.

The alumni association also elected two board members: Tim Metcalf, a 1982 business graduate from San Clemente, Calif., and Dave Chin, a 1980 engineering graduate from Portland, Oregon. Metcalf and Chin are the newest additions to the 15-member board and will each serve an initial three-year term with eligibility for one additional term.

The board of directors oversees the operation of the alumni association, working closely with Executive Director Scott Greenwood, the rest of the association's professional staff and its network of volunteers. The association is OSU's designated organization for maintaining relationships with nearly 160,000 Beaver alumni around the world. The OSUAA hosts myriad community-building events ranging from reunions to tailgaters; operates the CH2M HILL Alumni Center, awards OSU's premier alumni honors; publishes the university community's major magazine, the Oregon Stater; helps alumni with career networking; raises money for scholarships, and continues to search for and deploy new and best practices to support the university and its alumni.
