CORVALLIS, Ore. - Award-winning Seattle poet Paul Hunter will join writers Karen Holmberg, Bill Siverly, Clemens Starck, and Alexis White for "Dirt Still Clinging to the Words," an Earth Day poetry reading on Friday, April 22.

The free, public event runs from noon to 1:30 p.m. in Memorial Union 109 on the Oregon State University campus. An open microphone will follow the featured readers. Everyone is invited to bring a favorite poem to share.

Hunter has worked as a teacher, performer, grass roots arts activist, and farmer. His first collection of farming poems, "Breaking Ground" (Silverfish Review Press, 2004) received the 2004 Washington State Book Award. He was recently a featured poet on The News Hour with Jim Lehrer. His latest book, "One Seed to Another: The New Small Farming," was published by the Small Farmer's Journal.

Hunter will also read at the Organic Growers Club "Hoo Haa" event later that afternoon.

Holmberg, author of the poetry collection, "The Perseids," teaches poetry and literature in the OSU English department. Portland poet Siverly is the author of "Clearwater Way," and is co-editor for the poetry journal, Windfall. Starck, a former OSU carpenter, is the author of "Journeyman's Wages," which received the Oregon Book Award. White is a graduate student in the Creative Writing program at OSU. Charles Goodrich will emcee the event.
