CORVALLIS, Ore. - A new organization of creative professionals in the design industry will hold its first event on Oct. 7 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the lobby of Union Bank/OSU Portland Center, 407 S.W. Broadway.

In keeping with Portland's economic development plan, which focuses on the city's active wear and design industry, the Oregon State University Design Network was created to develop an active network of designers, and to serve and enhance the education of students looking for a future in merchandising and design.

The event includes a showcase of student work - including creations from the annual recycle fashion show and original designs from the Spring Student Design showcase. The students are from OSU's Department of Design and Human Environment, which has a large and strong alumni base working in the growing merchandising and design industries in the Portland area.

There will be appetizers and a silent auction featuring items from Nike, Columbia, Pendleton and other companies.

Tickets are $10. Registration for this social networking event is at http://www.osualum.com

The event is sponsored by the OSU Design Network, the OSU Alumni Association, the Department of Design and Human Environment and the OSU Foundation.
