CORVALLIS, Ore. - Lace up your tennis shoes, strap on your roller skates or load the baby into the stroller. It's time for the OSU Run, Walk 'n Roll with the President (and special guests) on Friday, Oct. 15, on the Oregon State University campus.

The 5k event will include participants from all over campus and the community, including the Sick Town Derby Dames, and is a great way to enjoy the gorgeous fall colors, brisk October air, and the company of Oregon State students, faculty and President Ed Ray. The event asks participants to "Be Well, Be Active, Be Orange." There is an optional one-mile course for those who don't want to do the entire 5k event.

Registration is free, open to the public, and pre-registration participants receive a T-shirt. To register early go to the Sports Clubs Intramural Sports Office in Dixon Recreation Center or go to http://oregonstate.edu/recsports/5krun. There will be check-in and late registration on site in the Memorial Union Quad from 2:30 to 3:15 p.m. on the day of the event, but T-shirts will only be offered on a first-come, first-served basis at that time.

President Ray will speak to participants at 3:15 p.m., and the Run, Walk 'n Roll begins at 3:30 p.m. Participants will be registered to win prizes in a random drawing after the 5k. Pets are not allowed to participate.

OSU faculty and staff also can participate in the campus physical activity program Beaver Strides for free during fall term. Beaver Strides uses pedometers, prizes and other incentives to motivate participants to "step it up" and increase their movement throughout the day. Fall registration is going on now through Oct. 18. Visit  http://studenthealth.oregonstate.edu/strides-signup to sign up.

There will be a Beaver Strides Kick-off Open House on Oct. 15, the same day as the 5k, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Plageman Hall, Student Health Center, Room 322, where registrants will receive their pedometers and tracking booklets, enter to win prizes and enjoy healthy snacks.
