CORVALLIS, Ore. - Author and climate change scholar James Fleming will speak on "Fixing the Sky: The Checkered History of Weather and Climate Control," on Wednesday, Oct. 27, at Oregon State University.

The presentation will be at 4 p.m. in the Memorial Union, Room 109, on the OSU campus, and is free and open to the public.

Fleming will examine the long and dubious history of rainmakers, rain fakers, weather warriors, and climate engineers, connecting what he calls a tragicomic history with current public policy discussions about global warming and "fixing the sky."

Fleming is professor of science, technology, and society at Colby College, and was elected a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science "for pioneering studies on the history of meteorology and climate change and for the advancement of historical work within meteorological societies."

His latest book is "Fixing the Sky: The Checkered History of Weather and Climate Control," with Columbia University Press. A book sale and signing will follow the lecture.
