CORVALLIS, Ore. - Edward Waymire, a professor of mathematics and statistics at Oregon State University, has been chosen president-elect of the Bernoulli Society for Mathematical Statistics and Probability.
Waymire will assume the presidency in two years of this international professional society, founded in 1975, which is devoted to education and research in probability and mathematical statistics. Its 1,500 members from 70 countries often collaborate on research and publications, and participate in conferences in these fields held around the world.
Waymire, who received his doctorate in mathematics from the University of Arizona, has served on numerous committees of professional societies, authored textbooks on such topics as stochastic processes and probability theory, and has been the editor of professional journals.
He is a principal investigator at OSU on two major National Science Foundation grants, one in geosciences and another in mathematical applications to problems in ecosystem informatics.
