CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State University students will bring a taste of the islands to Corvallis this Saturday, April 24, when OSU holds its 55th annual luau.

The event has grown into one of the university's most successful cultural celebrations, annually attracting as many as a thousand visitors. This year's celebration may be one of the largest and most ambitious - featuring Hawaiian food, Polynesian dancers and a prominent reggae band.

The luau will be held at Gill Coliseum, with doors opening at 4:30 p.m. Dinner begins at 5 p.m., followed by the Polynesian show at 6:15 p.m., and concert at 9 p.m. The concert will feature Katchafire, one of New Zealand's best reggae bands.

Tickets are priced at $25 for the dinner, show and concert, or $20 for the show and concert (with a small handling charge) if purchased online. Tickets purchased at the door on the day of the event will be an additional $5. 

The Hawaiian dinner includes Kalua pork, Lomi salmon, chicken long rice, steamed white rice, shoyu chicken (soy sauce), and haupia (coconut flavored gelatin dessert). Following dinner, the Polynesian show will feature a range of Polynesian dances performed by Hui-O-Hawaii and Polynesian Cultural Club members.

The luau is coordinated by the OSU student group Hui-O-Hawaii with the Polynesian Cultural Club, and sponsored by Intercultural Student Service.
