CORVALLIS, Ore. - Toni Doolen, an associate professor in the School of Mechanical, Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering at Oregon State University, has been named a 2009 fellow of the Society of Women Engineers.

Doolen has a doctorate in industrial engineering from OSU, has published nearly 20 journal articles and a book chapter, been awarded numerous grants, and is an active teacher and student adviser.

The Society of Women Engineers, founded in 1950, is a not-for-profit educational and service organization.

"Dr. Toni Doolen has selflessly contributed her time, ideas and guidance to the society and young women aspiring to reach full potential in their engineering careers," said Nora Lin, president of this organization. "Throughout her career she has served as a SWE leader, advancing outreach and scholarship programs. As a professor, she is recognized for her strength as an educator."

Doolen has worked as a process engineer with Hewlett-Packard, joined the OSU faculty in 2001, and received OSU's Institute of Industrial Engineers Faculty of the Year award four years in a row for her strength as an educator. She has been a member of the Society of Women Engineers for 20 years, led the chartering of the Willamette Valley Professional Section in 1996 and served as its first president.
