CORVALLIS, Ore. – The University Theatre program at Oregon State University will offer its 2009 Spring One-Act Festival beginning Thursday, May 28.

 The student-written and directed one-act plays will be held May 28-30 at 7:30 p.m. with a 2 p.m. matinee performance on May 31. The event will be at the Withycombe Hall Main Stage, 2901 S.W. Campus Way, Corvallis. These original one-act comedy plays were written and developed as part of the OSU Theatre’s playwriting classes.

“‘Till Death Do Us Part” is a dark comedy written by Kenny Arellano and directed by Matt Smith featuring a bickering newlywed couple brought closer together after an unfortunate accident.

 In Matt Smith’s raunchy comedy of bad manners, “The Golden Balls,” Lord Richard inherits a mysterious artifact and attempts to win the heart of an eccentric woman. The play is directed by Feygon Nickerson.

 Tracy Hruby’s “Juliet” is a dark romantic comedy directed by Sarah Sheldrick about a kind-hearted mortician who meets the girl of his dreams.

 In Dan Mueller’s “Mind Your Manors,” the new owner of a country manor house becomes a trigger-happy sociopath, bodies drop, guests arrive and revenge is sought. Nick Sheler is the director.

 “Directing a one-act play has been a highly rewarding experience,” Sheler said. “We’re fortunate that we have direct contact with our playwrights and they’ve been able to attend rehearsals so there is an open dialogue.”
