CORVALLIS. Ore. – The 27th annual Art About Agriculture touring exhibit opens March 16 and runs through April 24 at the Oregon State University LaSells Stewart Center Giustina Art Gallery.
The theme of this year’s competition, sponsored by the College of Agricultural Sciences, is "The Concept of Place." Jurists Erik Sandgen of Aberdeen, Wash., and Phyllis Trowbridge, Ashland, selected 54 works by 49 artists from Idaho, Oregon and Washington.
The Pacific Northwest is thoroughly represented in this year’s art survey, according to Shelley Curtis, curator of Art About Agriculture. The artwork includes acrylic and oil painting; fiber; photography; watercolor; forged steel; and mixed media.
Artists Jan Boles, Caldwell, Idaho; Jody Dunphy and Justin Williams, Eugene; Alan Graham, Monmouth; Nancy Hagood and Peter Krupp, Corvallis; Prescott Lewis and David Winston, Ashland; and Dee Vadnais, Deer Island, were each granted purchase awards. Their art will be included in the college’s permanent collection.
Susan Applegate, Yoncalla; Rebecca Cozart, Keizer; and Faith Hagenhofer, Tenino, Wash., received cash-honorarium awards. Paul Joseph Lucas, Ridgefield, Wash., received a curator’s cash-honorarium award.
Following the Corvallis show, the 2009 Art about Agriculture exhibition will tour Oregon on the following schedule:
• Art Center, The Dalles, April 29–May 28 • Museum of Art, Grants Pass, June 2–July 29 • Crossroads Carnegie Art Center, Baker City, Aug. 4–31.
