CORVALLIS - William M. Baird has been named the new director of the Environmental Health Sciences Center at Oregon State University.
He will succeed Don Reed, the Distinguished Professor of Biochemistry and Biophysics at OSU, who directed the center for 16 years. Reed will continue his research programs at the university.
Baird formerly held the Glenn L. Jenkins Professorship in the Department of Medicinal Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology at Purdue University, and he also served as director of the Purdue Cancer Center for the past 11 years.
"We are extremely pleased to welcome Dr. Baird to OSU," said Richard Scanlan, dean of research. "There are many exciting opportunities and challenges for the center. With his leadership, the EHSC and its associated faculty will continue to make significant contributions to understanding the impacts of environmental compounds on human health."
