CORVALLIS, Ore. – The director of a California ethics center will give a free public lecture on Monday, May 4, at Oregon State University that examines the question posed in the title, “What Would Jesus Really Do?”

Sponsored by the Hundere Endowment in Religion and Culture at OSU, the lecture by Andrew Fiala will draw on his critically acclaimed book of the same title. The event begins at 7 p.m. in Weniger Hall 151, 103 S.W. Memorial Place on campus.

Jesus’ moral teachings are important and influential, Fiala says, but do they tell us everything we need to know about morality? This talk will consider the basics of ethics in Jesus’ teachings, while also pointing out the need to go beyond Jesus in thinking about issues from abortion to euthanasia. The talk will compare Jesus and Socrates and discuss how modern moral philosophers have related to Jesus.

Fiala is professor and director of the Ethics Center at California State University at Fresno. He is the author of five books, most recently “The Just War Myth,” and co-editor of the journal, Philosophy in the Contemporary World.
