CORVALLIS, Ore. – Professor Robert Nye will give a speech titled, “Why This Isn’t My Final Lecture,” as part of The Last Lecture series, at 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 6.

It will be held in the Memorial Union Lounge at Oregon State University. The lecture is free and open to the public.

The Last Lecture, sponsored by the Memorial Union Program Council, is an opportunity for a retiring Oregon State University faculty member to present a final lecture for the campus community, share insights from their career and offer final comments to colleagues, student and friends.

Nye holds the Thomas Hart and Mary Jones Horning endowed chair in the Department of History where he is also a professor of history. He has held this position since 1994. Before coming to Oregon State University he was a George Lynn Cross Research Professor in the History Department at the University of Oklahoma.

He teaches European Intellectual History and the History of Sexuality at OSU.

Nye is the recipient of numerous prestigious fellowships, including ones from the American Philosophical Society, the National Science Foundation, and the National Endowment for the Humanities. He has served on the editorial boards of several journals including the American Historical Review. He has written or edited seven books, and dozens of articles and reviews.

Nye is retiring from OSU at the end of spring term.
