CORVALLIS, Ore. – Bob and Charlee Moore, the founders of Bob’s Red Mill, will speak at Oregon State University on Feb. 12 in a presentation called “Developing Dreams into Reality: The Story of Bob’s Red Mill Natural Foods.”
The free public lecture will start at 4 p.m. in the Construction & Engineering Auditorium of OSU’s LaSells Stewart Center. The event is sponsored by the OSU Student Dietetic Association and the College of Health and Human Sciences.
“Current dietary recommendations emphasize the importance of eating whole grain foods, and Bob’s Red Mill has established itself as a leader in this market,” said Anthony Wilcox, chairman of the Nutrition & Exercise Sciences Department.
“The creation and growth of their business, and their commitment to quality production of whole foods, such as their use of quartz millstones from quarries in France, is a compelling story. And Bob is lively and entertaining speaker.”
Milwaukie, Ore.-based Bob’s Red Mill is a leader in stone milling. The old-world company was founded in 1978 and has become a multimillion-dollar business with international distribution.
Consumer interest in Bob’s Red Mill’s whole grain products recently prompted the company to add automated packaging lines and a new distribution warehouse. Bob’s Red Mill has now grown to an 80,000-plus square-foot facility and employs more than 75 individuals to meet the demand of natural foods stores, specialty food sections and grocers across the nation.
Bob and Charlee Moore, the founders of Bob’s Red Mill, started their business in a historic flour mill near Oregon City with a mission to grind whole grains into flours, cereals and mixes for the local community. The couple began a nationwide search for special stones used in century-old mills that would become the company’s foundation for milling simple, wholesome, whole-grain foods.
