CORVALLIS, Ore. - Research fellows at the Center for the Humanities at Oregon State University will present a series of free fall lectures that are open to the public.

All the lectures will take place at 4 p.m. at the Center for the Humanities, 811 S.W. Jefferson in Corvallis. The series includes:

• Oct. 2: "If You Can't Protect What You Own, You Don't Own Anything: Piracy, Privacy and Public Relations in 21st-Century Hollywood," Jon Lewis, professor of English, OSU.
• Oct. 16: "Fighting for Civil Rights: Labor and the Early Mexican American Civil Rights Movement, 1946-1963," Zaragosa Vargas, professor of history, UC-Santa Barbara.
• Oct. 23: "Barbarian Queens: Paradoxes of Gender, Power and Identity," Alison Futrell, associate professor of history, University of Arizona.
• Oct. 30: "Developing Democratic Governance in Contemporary Russia: Citizen Activism in Russia's Regions," Sarah Henderson, assistant professor of political science, OSU.
• Nov. 6: "Welfare Rights to Welfare Reform: the Politics of AFDC, 1964-1984," Marisa Chappell, assistant professor of history, OSU.
• Nov. 13: "Translation of Los Dolientes, a Jewish-Mexican Novel," Kayla Garcia, professor of foreign languages and literatures, OSU.
