CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State University Foundation presented Robert Lundeen of Deer Harbor, Wash., with a Lifetime Trustee Award. He was honored at an awards banquet in Rancho Mirage, Calif., last night (March 7).

The Lifetime Trustee Award is presented to an individual who has demonstrated more than 12 years of outstanding service as a trustee of the OSU Foundation and has made significant financial contributions to benefit the university.

"Robert Lundeen is an outstanding volunteer and a very generous donor," said Jim Rudd, chair of the OSU Foundation Board of Trustees. "His many years of service as a trustee and his deep interest in coastal research and scholarships have helped strengthen the university in very meaningful ways.

"In addition, his leadership on the Valley Library Campaign helped transform OSU's library into one of the finest in the country," Rudd added.

Lundeen, a 1942 graduate of OSU's chemical engineering program, is the retired chair of Dow Chemical Company and former chair and chief executive officer of the electronics testing and instruments company Tektronix.

After serving 15 years on the OSU Foundation Board of Trustees, Lundeen was named an honorary trustee in 1998. He established the Robert West Lundeen Presidential Scholarship, the Betty Lundeen Achievement Scholarship and the Robert and Betty Lundeen Marine Biology Fund. In addition to serving on the Valley Library Advisory Council, he has served on the College of Science Board of Visitors, the Chemical Engineering Advisory Board and the College of Engineering Advisory Board.

Lundeen has also been involved with the Monterey Bay Aquarium, the University of Washington, the Orcas Island Community Foundation and the Kettering Foundation, among many other activities.

Lundeen's history with OSU spans generations. His father, Arthur Robert Lundeen, was a 1917 forestry graduate. His late wife, Betty, received her business degree from OSU in 1942, and their daughter, Nancy, graduated with a degree in geology in 1975. He also has two sons, John W. Lundeen and Peter B. Lundeen.
