CORVALLIS, Ore. - The third season of "Smart Gardening," a nationally broadcast half-hour gardening television series on the Public Broadcasting System network, is under way.
Smart Gardening grew out of efforts several years ago by the Oregon State University Extension Service to reach gardeners around the Pacific Northwest with research-based programming. This 2006 season, OSU is a national underwriter of the half-hour television series.
Host Deanna Connell, an Oregonian, and four garden correspondents visit more than 80 experts this season, in a magazine-style series. Episodes include visits to France, California, The Netherlands, Virginia and the Pacific Northwest in search of the most interesting plants and the people who grow them.
There are 26 new episodes being nationally broadcast on PBS affiliates across the country. In Oregon, the program airs weekdays at 7 p.m. on OPB CREATE and at 2:30 p.m. on OPB DTV. The series is produced by Chambers Gardening Productions in Eugene.
