CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State University will host a workshop for college students and post-doctoral graduates who are looking to pursue a career in science.

The workshop, called "Putting Your Science to Work," runs from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 10, in OSU's Milam Auditorium. It is free and open to the public.

Directing the workshop will be Peter S. Fiske, who has presented similar material to more than 7,000 scientists at universities, government agencies, and national and international scientific meetings. It is sponsored by numerous OSU academic units.

Fiske has a Ph.D. in geological and environmental sciences from Stanford University, and served a year as a White House Fellow in the Clinton administration as a special assistant to the Secretary of Defense for special projects. He is a former member of the technical staff of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.

He is the author of "To Boldly Go: A Practical Career Guide for Scientists" and "Put Your Science to Work: A Take-Charge Career Guide for Scientists."

Though intended for scientists or students with a science background, the workshop also is open to the public. In his presentation, Fiske will outline the job market for scientists and discuss things that persons with a science background can do to broaden their skills for employers.
