CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State University Peer Health Advocates will host an informational fair and candlelight vigil on Thursday, Dec. 1, in observance of World AIDS Day 2005.

The informational fair is set from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the OSU Memorial Union Concourse. A candlelight vigil starts at 7 p.m. in the Memorial Union Quad.

Focusing on awareness and prevention, the fair will feature informational booths from campus and community organizations, said Dave Visiko, Peer Health Advocates adviser. Among the activities planned is an interactive tool that imitates the daily regime and costs of anti-retroviral medications necessary for AIDS treatment.

The candlelight vigil will focus on unity and hope. Music and inspirational readings will be played to coincide with the vigil.

Additional events include a viewing of Pandemic, a documentary series featuring women from four different countries and emphasizing the susceptibility of women to infection. The showing begins at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 30, in Owen Hall Room 101.

World AIDS Day was started as an opportunity for global and local organizations as well as individuals to demonstrate the importance of fighting against the disease and highlight the challenges that remain.
