CORVALLIS - Karen Diamond, director of the Child Development Laboratory at Purdue University and editor of a prestigious research journal, will speak on early childhood literacy in a lecture on Wednesday, May 11, at Oregon State University.
Her talk, "Reading, Writing, Readiness: Evidence-Based, Developmentally Appropriate Early Literacy Practices in Programs for At-Risk Preschoolers," begins at 2 p.m. in the Memorial Union's Asian-Pacific Room (206).
Diamond is the editor of Early Childhood Research Quarterly, considered one of the top research journals for early childhood care and education.
This is the second lecture of four in a series called Pathways to Resilience that is sponsored by the OSU Department of Human Development and Family Sciences. OSU's School of Education is co-sponsoring Diamond's lecture.
The next talk in the series will be on May 25 by Charles Martinez. His talk, "Cultural Adaptation of 'Best Practice' Interventions for Latino Families: Methods and Effects," will begin at 4 p.m. in the Joyce Powell Leadership Center in the MU.
The final lecture, on June 3, will be given by Mark Lusk, OSU's new director of International Education. He will discuss the international issue of street children. His talk begins at 2 p.m. in the Joyce Powell Leadership Center.
