CORVALLIS - The Oregon State University College of Veterinary Medicine will hold its graduation ceremony for 35 new doctors of veterinary medicine on Sunday, May 29.
The program will begin at 1:30 p.m. in the LaSells Stewart Center on the OSU campus and is free and open to the public. Most other OSU graduates will receive their diplomas at the university's regular commencement program on June 12.
Career prospects for veterinary medicine professionals are very good, said Dr. Howard Gelberg, dean of the college. Employment of veterinarians is expected to increase faster than the average for all occupations through the year 2012.
Continued support for public health and food safety, national disease control programs, and biomedical research on human health problems will contribute to the demand for veterinarians, he said.
Homeland security will also provide opportunities for veterinarians involved in efforts to minimize animal diseases and prevent them from entering the country.
