CORVALLIS - Charles Martinez, a Eugene researcher who works on communication and intervention strategies for Latino youth, will give a lecture on Wednesday, May 25, at Oregon State University that looks at cultural adaptation.
His talk, "Cultural Adaptation of 'Best Practice' Interventions for Latino Families: Methods and Effects," begins at 4 p.m. in the Joyce Powell Leadership Center in the Memorial Union. It is free and open to the public.
Martinez is affiliated with the Oregon Social Learning Center and the Oregon Prevention Research Center, both in Eugene. He advises numerous state and national groups about improving life opportunities for Latino youth.
His presentation is part of an OSU series called Pathways to Resilience that is sponsored by the Department of Human Development and Family Sciences. Martinez's lecture is co-sponsored by the Department of Ethnic Studies and the Difference, Power and Discrimination Program at OSU.
The final lecture in the series will be on Friday, June 3, when Mark Lusk, OSU's director of International Education, speaks on "An International Look at Resiliency in Street Children." Lusk is a professor of in the Department of Human Development and Family Sciences. His talk begins at 2 p.m. in the Joyce Powell Leadership Center.
