CORVALLIS - Five Oregon State University College of Business faculty members have earned Newcomb Fellowships for superior academic performance.

The awards are made possible by an endowment established by Bernie Newcomb, an alumnus from OSU's class of 1965, who is one of the founders of E*TRADE. Winners receive a clock and $10,000 each for their accomplishments.

The Newcomb Fellowship honor is designed to recognize superior faculty performance and to instill in the College of Business an enhanced spirit of continuous improvement. Newcomb Fellows honors are presented to a limited number of the most outstanding College of Business faculty each year.

The 2005 Newcomb Fellows are Jim Coakley, associate dean of academic and student services; Clay Dibrell, assistant professor of strategic management; V. T. Raja, senior instructor of management information systems; Rene Reitsma, associate professor of management information systems; and Fran McKee Ryan, assistant professor of management.

Coakley was recognized for advancing information systems making advising administration more efficient in the college and across campus. He has been an OSU faculty member for nearly 15 years with a research focus in information technology.

Dibrell was honored for his active scholarship, teaching evaluations and support of the college's strategic initiatives. Dibrell arrived at OSU five years ago and his research interests lie in strategic planning, corporate entrepreneurship, strategy formulation & implementation, and international business.

Raja was recognized for his scholarship and master of information systems option work benefiting students. An OSU faculty member since 1998, Raja's research focuses on information technology in business.

Reitsma brought in more than $248,000 of external research support and helped launch TeachEngineering, an on-line curriculum resource for kindergarten through 12th-grade educators. He arrived at OSU in 2002 and focuses on development and design of information systems.

Ryan, who arrived at OSU in 2002, was honored for taking on leadership roles in the college in a variety of areas. Her research focuses on organizational behavior and human resource management.
